Birch plywood and ways to use it

Birch plywood is a multilayer building material made by gluing specially prepared veneer. To increase the strength of plywood, the veneer layers are overlapped so that the wood fibers of each sheet are perpendicular to the neighboring ones, so that the directions of the outer layers coincide, the number of veneer layers is usually odd: three or more

There are various fields where wood plywood is used: building, interior, furniture, etc.

Construction

In the construction field, birch plywood is used as an auxiliary material. In demand for flooring, roofing, and finishing works (inside and outside), also used as a formwork for pouring concrete.

Interior

Modern designers use it as a facing material in loft and Scandinavian style. Birchwood plywood is used to decorate wall panels, ceilings, and wardrobe facades. The natural ornament fits in well with the minimalist interior, bright tones, and rough brick texture.

Furniture

Birchwood has been considered to be the most widely used material for making furniture since ancient times. Based on them, they make various structural and decorative details that are superior to other materials such as particleboard (chipboard), oriented strand board (OSB), and others.

At the same time, furniture made of plywood has a more democratic value than furniture made of solid wood.

Plywood advantages:

  • Beautiful texture of natural wood, strength, and low-weight
  • Resistance to temperature variability
  • Noise and thermal insulation properties
  • Acceptable price and advantages over other materials, ease of processing, and the ability to obtain the desired shape
  • Flat, smooth surface and compatibility with other materials;
  • Possibility of covering with various paints, varnishes, and other materials․

What do we need to know about birch wood plywood?

There is a practice of dividing birch plywood into several types, such as the quality of the top layer coating and processing:

  • I first variety (class) - the surface does not have any defects, only increased edges are allowed, the diameter of which does not exceed 6 mm, and the quantity is not more than 3 pieces per 1 sq.m.
  • II second variety (class) - on the surface, we find the so-called adulterated or partially grown corms with a diameter not exceeding 6 mm and a quantity no more than 6 pcs per 1 sq.m
  • III Third variety (class) - the diameter of the grown and partially grown bridges should not exceed 15 mm, and the quantity should not exceed 10 pcs per 1 sq.m
  • IV Fourth variety (class) – in this type of plywood it is possible to have any type of defect (may have a defect). The main criterion is the quality of the plywood layers.
